BRIDGETOWN, Barbados - Under a tropical rain, the United States-Trinidad & Tobago match opened the second women's Pan American Championship with a 9-0 victory for the North Americans on Wednesday morning at the Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex here.

Two goals by evergreen Tracey Fuchs - in the 17th and 52nd minutes; other two by Angela Loy (34th and 63rd) and the rest from Kristen McCann (ninth minute); Carrie Lingo (14th); Kristi Gannon (64th minute); Abbey Wooley (68th) and April Fronzoni (69th) gave the US a deserved win as they dominated play throughout the match.

However, Trinidad & Tobago did not give up producing a couple of good chances from a short corner, saved by US goalie Amy Tran, and another one, 15 minutes after-half time, when Oire Trotman was left alone in front of the US goal and her shot was just wide.

But the Caribbean team efforts were useless as the winners dominance was absolute.

Uruguay also wins

Pan-American bronze medallists Uruguay also won. The South Americans defeated the local side, Barbados, 5-1 in the second match of the day.

Bettiana Ceretta - in the fourth and 20th minute; Virginia Casab� (14th and 50th) and Lorena Margni, six minutes from the final, scored for the winners.

The only goals for Barbados was netted by Lisa Chrichlow, eight minutes after half-time.

Uruguay controlled play from the very start to gain a quick 3-0 advantage in the first half. But the hosts opposed a tough resistance after the break, pressing hard the South Americans to net for the joy of its fans.

However, Uruguay regained control in the last part of the match to seal a deserved win.
