BRIDGETOWN, Barbados - Canada reached the semifinals of the second women's Pan-American Cup by defeating Chile 2-0 on Saturday at the Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex here.

Kristen Taunton and Lesley Magnus gave Canada a deserved victory.

On Monday, Canada will face the winner of later match between the United States and Uruguay, who will decide the first and second places today at 6pm.

Chile started better, pressing the North Americans and producing some good chances. But Canada reacted gaining the midfield, specially after the South Americans missed striker Paula Infante (who was temporarily sent off due to rough play).

Thus, Canada tightened their marks and improved their precision to take control of play.

Their attacks became more and more dangerous, but Chile's back line and goalie Constanza Abud made fine savings. But they could not prevented Kristen Taunton's goal, who deservedly opened the score, in the 23rd minute.

Chile attacked after half-time, but their advances did not harm Canada.

The South Americans controlled midfield stopping the Canadians advances, who tried to take advantage of the counter-attacks.

A short corner gave Canada their second goal, in the 63rd minute, through Lesley Magnus, who capitalized on a rebound.

Canada were superior than Chile and though the South Americans did not play bad they showed lack of conviction to win the match.
