BRIDGETOWN, Barbados - Chile defeated Barbados 5-2 to finish fifth, while the Netherlands Antilles beat Trinidad & Tobago 3-1 to end seventh at the second women's Pan-American Championship at the Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Both matches were delayed until midday due to the heavy rain continued.

Two goals by Carolina Garc�a, two from Daniela Infante and other by Paula Infante gave the South Americans the deserved victory. Barbados' goals were netted by Corlette Kellman and Maria Browne.

Chile were superior than their rivals as they were more accurate and effective in attack.

The South Americans gained the midfield to push Barbados towards their own back row. Thus, they produced good scoring chances to take a 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutos, through Daniela Infante - in the sixth minute - and Paula Infante, eight minutes later, from a wonderful solo play.

However, Barbados' counter-attacks were also dangerous but Chile's back row alongside with keeper Constanza Abud stopped their advances.

But the Chileans attacked again to take a 3-0 advantage from Garc�a again, a minute before half-time.

Though the South Americans netted two more after half-time through Daniela Infante, again, in the 47th minute and Garc�a, in the 49th, Barbados did not give up to close the gap, four minutes later, after a rush through the right wing by Nicole Brathwaite which was capitalized on by Corlette Kellman.

However, Chile regained control of play to keep the result with calm. Two minutes before the final whistle, when the South Americans had missed Francisca Debesa due to a yellow card, Barbados scored again through Maria Browne.

First Victory for Netherlands Antilles to Take Seventh Place

Netherlands Antilles finish seventh by defeating Trinidad & Tobago 3-1 in the playoff match that has been halted on Tuesday due to a heavy storm.

Trinidad & Tobago had opened the score, in the 13th minute, through Nicole Dixon-Aming, but the Netherlands Antilles equalized, four minutes later, by Daphne Mulder.

Two minutes before half-time, Netherlands Antilles took a 2-1 lead through Maaika Thies.

When the last 25 minutes resumed Trinidad & Tobago were close of scoring, but on the contrary Netherlands Antilles increased the lead from another goal by Mulder, from a short corner, in the 58th minute.
