Mismatch Day

It was a day of mismatches with a few exceptions, as Barbados trounced Puerto Rico 11-0. Barbados' impressive players Joanna Davis and Cher King both notched hat tricks showcasing Barbados as a force in the Caribbean. The game that followed was also a high scoring game, when the USA beat Bermuda 9-0 in another consistent performance by the Americans. Captain Rachel Dawson scored the opening and closing goals to lead her team to a comfortable victory over Bermuda

Canada sealed the #2 position in "Pool A" by edging Uruguay 1-0. Canada controlled most of the game and was rewarded after effective passes and control, which lead to a spectacular shot by Karen Mann in the 39th min. The Canadians maintained control with few teasing runs from Uruguay.

This was followed by another mismatch; Chile out played Dominican Republic to a 16-0 victory. Camila Infante registered 6 goals along with captain Carolina Garia's hat trick to put Chile in 2nd position in "Pool A" with a better goal average than Mexico.

The Argentines got their chance to increase their goal difference and defeated Jamaica 12 - 0. Ines Garmendia moved from third place to #1 on the top scorer list with 10 goals after netting a hat trick. Her teammate Maria Silvina D'Elia is tied with Chilean captain Carolina Gracia for second place with 8 goals. Three Argentines occupy the top five positions for the tournament's leading scorers.

In the final match of the day, Mexico managed a 2-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago. Goalkeeper, Jesus Castillo, who played in the field for this game, executed a flick in the 61st minute after the straight shot was saved from the penalty corner. This dampened the spirit of the "Trini" ladies, who are now 5th in Pool A.
