LAST PAN-AMERICAN BERTH FOR CHILEAN GIRLS With four goals from Daniel Caram, Chile overwhelmed Brazil 10-0 to take the last berth for the 2007 Pan-American Games in Rio de Janeiro, in the sixth day of the women�s tournament of the 8th South American (ODESUR) Games on Thursday at the Club Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Chile fully dominated the first half to net two early goals, in the third and fourth minutes, through Daniela Caram and Mar�a Jos� Fern�ndez. But later they complicated their own play, showing lack of ideas in front of their rival goal. Meanwhile, Brazil defended well along with another brilliant performance by their goalie Nadja Fawakhiri, who saved her goal several times. Javiera Villagra increased Chile�s gap, in the last minute with a direct corner shot. Chile were more effective after the break, netting seven more through Daniela Caram, in the 40th, 42nd and 67th minutes; Beatriz Albertz, in the 44th; Daniela Infante (49); Francisca Flores, in the 58th, and Carolina Garc�a, in th 64th. However, Brazil struggle to produce some counterattacks and a penalty corner that was saved first by Chilean keeper Claudia Schuller and later by defender Sof�a Walbaum on the line. �The main goal was to qualify for the Pan-American Games and I believe that according to the team qualified up to now they will be the best Pan-Am Games in the last two decade�, said Chile�s coach Alfredo Castro. �We have great expectations in that tournament as the Chilean hockey continues growing�, concluded the coach, who is Argentine. URUGUAY BEAT BRAZIL IN EXCITING MATCH The men�s Uruguay team defeated Brazil 4-2 in the second match on Thursday in the 8th South American (ODESUR) Games at the Club Ciudad de Buenos Aires. In spite of both teams had no possibilities of qualifying, the match was exciting and plenty of scoring chances. Brazil played a good first half, controlling well the ball and also producing the best attacks. In the 17th minute, Brazil got a penalty stroke that Claudio Rocha failed to net as his shot was weak and Uruguayan keeper Mariano Mallo saved it without problems. Meanwhile, Uruguay took advantage of a fast counter-attack to open the score, in the 22nd minute, through Maximiliano Tixe. The second half was even and intense, up and down, but it was Uruguay who increased the lead by Juan Andr�s Cornalino, in the 46th minute. Four minutes later, Gustavo Eger scored for Brazil after a brilliant solo play by Guillermo Berthold. But Uruguay�s more accuracy allowed them to net the third through Sebasti�n Castillos, who capitalized on a corner rebound with a powerful shot for the 3-1. However, the emotions did not finish there as Uruguay scored the 4-1 through Fernando Mart�nez, in the 66th minute, and in the final minute Brazil converted the second, another brilliant goal by Eger, again, who noisily celebrated it. Argentina kept the pace, while Uruguay counterattacked, but their advances did not harm the local back row. The hosts took an early lead through Giselle Ka�evsky, who capitalized on a corner rebound in the third minute, while � in the 30th � Agustina Bouza put Argentina 2-0 ahead. Uruguay increased the pressure after half-time, but showed lack of ideas to reach the Argentine circle, while the locals scored the third, in the 42nd minute, from a corner rebound that Daniela Maloberti capitalized on. Both teams, who already get their berths for the 2007 Pan-American Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2007, will clash again in Sunday�s final Argentina showed a slight domination in a hard-fought first half, with tighten mark, where both defences appeared too close preventing the scoring chances. Without emotions and without penalty corners, both sides went to half-time without opening the score. The second half was fast and both teams had some good chances, but it was Argentina who produced the most advances.
