Canada - Guyana : 15 - 0

Canada opened the Ninth Edition of the Junior Pan Am Men's Tournament at the National Hockey Centre (NHC) here in Trinidad and Tobago this morning, with one of the fastest goal in the tournament's history as they opened their campaign with a 15-0 destruction of a hapless Guyana outfit.

The field goal came via Hudson Stewart within the first 35 seconds of the flick-off at the beautiful NHC venue located on the eastern side of the twin-island state in Tacarigua.

Soon afterward in the fifth minute, Devohn Teixeira beat the Guyanese custodian to make it 2-0 after five minutes and that was the signal for a steady flow of items to come in the Group B affair.

Canada, who will be looking to improve on their fifth place finish of the last championships held in Havana, Cuba, counted four more goals in the half to lead 6-0 at intermission.

On the resumption, the second-half resembled the first 35 minutes as the boys in white and red spend the entire period in the Guyanese's half and in slight rain added nine items to finished comfortable winners over their Caribbean counterparts.

Jesse Watson (11th, 67th and 70th minutes) and Derrick Norton (12th, 65th and 66th minutes) notched hat-tricks, while nine other players got in on the act for the winners.

Chile - Barbados : 6 - 0

Chile defeated Barbados 6-0 in a Group B affair of the Ninth Junior Pan Am Men�s Tournament here at the National Hockey Centre, Tacarigua in Trinidad and Tobago on Friday afternoon.

Doing the business for the Chileans were Jan Richter with a second�half brace (46th and 65th minutes) as Chile led by a 3-0 margin, following the opening half.

Sven Richter (25th), Sebastian Kapsch (28th) and Ricardo Achondo (30th) netted in the first session to give Chile the upper hand after 35 minutes. The other item for the winners came off the stick of Martin Rodriguez ten minutes from time in the 60th minute.

Earlier, Chileans made the Bajians paid for a pair of missed opportunities from Deon Harper and Ramos V Leacock in the space of three minutes when they scored three goals in quick time after the losers held their own in the first 25th minute.

Richter broke the deadlock for the winners when he hit a powerful shot from inside the top of the ��V� past Barbados goalkeeper.

Diminutive Sebastian make it 2-0 for Chile as he drove a low drive from an initial block by the opposition�s keeper.

Achondo rounded off the scoring for Chile in the opening period when his hard effort from outside the semi-circle deflected of a defender before crushing against the board at the bottom of the goal post for the South Americans to hold the upper ground at the intermission break.

In the second session, Chile continued to dominate the proceeding while adding three goals to their tally to shut out their trying rivals to join Canada as the early leaders in Group B.

Mexico - Brazil : 8 - 0

Mexico outplayed and outclassed Brazil before beating them 8-0 on the back of an excellent performance in Group B,as action in the Ninth Edition of the Junior Pan Am Men Hockey Tournament continued here in Trinidad and Tobago at the National Hockey Centre(NHC) in Tacarigua.

Playing before a decent crowd at the NHC, the Mexicans exhibited excellent stick work led by Ismael Enriquez Vasquez and their skilful number ten player Fransisco Montoya Aguilar with a hat-trick apiece as the Mexico overwhelmed their out of sort opponents.

They were in front by a healthy 5-0 advantage at the break to seal the deal early against a Brazil line-up that that hardly created any scoring opportunities throughout 70 minutes played.

Other items for the dominant Mexicans came from Eduardo Joya Cabrera (40th minute) and Miguel Gamez, who scored in the 45th minute.

Vasquez had his strikes in the 17th,18th and 25th minutes, while Aguilar notched his in the eighth minute,21st and 50th minute to finished the scoring the boys in the green kit.

Trinidad & Tobago - Puerto Rico : 3 - 1

Trinidad and Tobago got past Puerto Rico 3-1 in a very exciting Group A match-up at the Ninth Junior Pan Am Men's Hockey Tournament here at the National Hockey Centre in Tacarigua, in Trinidad on Friday.

The host nation got a couple of early strikes from Akim Toussaint (sixth minute) and Matthew Nian Tang (31st) in the first period to take a comfortable 2-0 lead at the conclusion of the first session.

But, the greenhorns Puerto Rico came out a completely different squad on the resumption and took the game to the local boys

They managed to pulled one back via Joseph Velasquez Agosto deep into the second half to cause some anxious moments among the T&T team and their noisy fans tact in on the eastern side of the NHC.

However, though, Cogie Butler settle the nerves of both parties when he cleverly side stepped Luis Daiz Torres in the Puerto Rico's upright to put the icing on the cake for the home side to claim all the points.

Argentina - Jamaica : 15 - 0

Defending champions Argentina showed that they mean business when they trounced 15-0 Jamaica in a one-way traffic Group A contest of the Ninth Junior Pan Am Men's Hockey Tournament in Trinidad and Tobago on the opening day of 2008 competition.

The winners, who have won all eight tournament contested to date proved too much for the Jamaicans as they displayed top draw skills to rack up a huge at the break to the delight of 300-plus spectators.

Providing the efforts for the South Americans were Leandro Tolini with seven goals and Cruz Juan Aguilleiro,who netted four times.

The champs' effort matched that of Canada in their affair against Guyana earlier in the day

A total of 48 goals were scored on Day One of the tournament from a handful of matches.
